Makanas – A Boutique Hotel in Santa Teresa, Costa Rica
Makanas is a boutique hotel focusing on guest service while providing all the peace and tranquility that nature provides. Makanas Beach Bungalows are located footsteps away from Santa Teresa beach on the Pacific Coast, on the most Southern point of the Nicoya Peninsula. Makanas is located in the beautiful village of Santa Teresa two kilometers north of the cross roads at Playa Carmen.
Santa Teresa can be considered a trendy destination concealed in the lush rolling hills of the tropical jungle and white sandy beaches. The village represents an authentic surfing community, established in the seventies, and renowned for its consistent waves and amazing beaches. This small jungle town attracts travelers from all over the world who come for adventure and to enjoy the easy going, tropical setting.
Makanas Beach Bungalows... A day in the life
The day begins waking up to the sounds of the jungle coming alive to greet the day. Tropical birds will start singing , and you may be lucky enough to a lively troop of Howler Monkeys saying hello to you right above your villa. It is a great way to start the day with a nice hot cup of Costa Rican Coffee and breakfast that is included in your stay. Surfing and Yoga are among the two most popular activities in the area, but there are plenty of other interest pursuits that await you as a guest at Makanas Beach Bungalows.
In walking out to the beach in front of the hotel you will see an assortment of tide pools. These tide pools are great for snorkeling and when the tides are right there are plenty of fish. If not it is always great to sit back and relax in natures hot tubs. A short two minute walk to the north brings you to Playa Hermosa, a wide open beautiful beach lined with coconut trees that is perfect for surfing, swimming or even playing a pick up game of Futbol. A two minute walk to the south will bring you to Santa Teresa beach which features a world class reef break called "Suck Rock". From there guests find their favorite spot on the beach to catch a wave or two. Surfing the waves at Santa Teresa while staying at Hotel Makanas great way to get the most out of the day.
So much to do, so little time
Other than surfing there are many activities and tours available for you to seek out your adventure. There is world renown hiking in Cabo Blanco park or the waterfalls of Montezuma canopy tour. Embrace your inner zen with the top Yoga instructors in Yoga or Pilates. You can also relax and rejuvenate your body with a private spa treatment offered by Makanas.
Sunsets over Santa Teresa Beach
The sunsets off the beaches in Santa Teresa and Malpais are truly amazing, but what makes the sunsets at Makanas special is the Penon. The Penon is an original Santa Teresa landmark. 'El Penon' is a massive rock that juts out of the reef local landmark that means 'Big Rock' in Spanish. Most images that you see featuring a sunset over the beach in Santa Teresa will show the Penon. So when you stay in the villas at Makanas, you just have to walk a few steps out of your bungalow and will be met by this sunset that will take your breath away. It's the perfect place for surfers adventurers or people who want to enjoy the good life, make friends and feel 'tranquillo' vibe.
Nevertheless, it remains a secret spot with unique restaurants, local culture, magic sunsets, and mind-blowing nature. Malpais/Santa Teresa was chosen as one of the top ten most beautiful beaches in the world by Forbes Magazine in 2011. Santa Teresa and Mal Pais are both currently rated as one of the top ten places to visit in the world on Trip Advisor.com.
Perfect! Lovely little cabinas, a secluded area and super friendly staff. Such a hidden gem in an otherwise tourist filled spot.Christine Norwayyy – Tripadvisor
